  • An RTD Negative result and all Follow-Up testing must be completed for the FMCSA Clearing house to show the violation as “Resolved”. The number of Follow Up tests required for a SAP driver to take is determined by the SAP counselor and , per DOT, may not be shared with the driver. The testing schedule is only shared between the counselor and the motor carrier(s).

Clean Inspections:

We reward drivers for obtaining clean inspections at all levels:

  • Level 3 Inspection (No Violations): $50 bonus
  • Level 2 Inspection (No Violations): $100 bonus
  • Level 1 Inspection (No Violations): $200 bonus
  • In addition, once a driver receives 5 clean inspections, they receive an additional $500 bonus.

Rewarding Driver Referral Program:

$600 a month for up to 6 months as long as both referee and referral remain employed. Note: referee must have referral’s first AND last name on the application for the referrer to be eligible – truck numbers alone do not meet this requirement.

Company Driver (W-2 position)

  • Pack Package – Clear & Competitive:
    • Earn up to 60CPM (based on experience and application review).
    • Breakdown / Layover Pay: $100 per day after the first 24 hours
    • Detention Pay: $15 per hour after 2–3 hours (depending on load)
    • Stop Pay: paid out based on the number of legs included on the load.
      • 1st leg = $30
      • 2nd-3rd leg = $40
      • 4th = $50 
    • Driver Referral Bonus: $300/month for up to 6 months (both drivers must stay employed)
  • Performance Bonuses:
    • Clean Inspection Bonuses: $50 (Level 3) • $100 (Level 2) • $200 (Level 1)
      • Extra $500 after your 5th clean inspection
    • Driver of the Month: 1st place: $500 | 2nd Place: $250 | 3rd-5th place: $100

  • What You Can Expect:
      • Average Miles: 2,700 – 3,300 per week
      • Running Area: All 48 states – No forced dispatch to NYC
      • Home Time: Tiered home time policy — the longer you stay out, the more home time you can earn.
        • 14 days out / 2 days home 
        • 4 weeks out / 4 days home
        • 8 weeks out / 7 days home
        • 12 weeks out / 10 days home (home time cap)
  • Pet Policy: $50/week payroll deduction until $400 fee is paid. Only 1 dog may be authorized.
    • Rider Policy: 1 passenger may be authorized. Must be at least 9 years of age. $40/month payroll deduction for insurance purposes.
    • Elected benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, and life insurance) start on the 1st of the month following the date of hire.
    • PTO: 5 days to start (DM approval required)
    • Equipment: Mostly 2020+ Kenworths, Freightliners & Internationals—fully equipped with APUs, refrigerators, and ELD tablets. Governed at 70 mph cruise / 68 mph pedal.
    • Fueling Locations: Love’s Travel Stop as primary and T/A Petro as secondary.

• All company drivers (excludes lease purchase and OOP) are required to pay into an escrow account ($1,600
total) which is then returned to the driver based on tenure ($200 each year the driver remains employed.) A signed payroll deduction form will be required of all onboarding Company Drivers for this purpose and they will be deducted $50/week until the escrow is paid in full.
• These funds are used for any outstanding debts, expenses, fees, fines, loans, or other costs the company incurs due to driver behavior that have not been paid at the time of termination of employment. Driver behavior includes any time a driver fails to exercise due care for equipment, exercises their duties in such a way that incurs costs, fees, fines, or expenses that are applied to the driver due to driver behavior or choices. Examples of such behavior include, but are not limited to: failing to return equipment upon termination, failing to repay loans, failing to cover training expenses or fees accumulated prior to termination of employment, failing to pay tickets or fines associated with driver performance (e.g., traffic citations, parking tickets, at fault accident costs, et cetera), and failing to cover SAP expenses.

Already own a truck? We contract Owner Operators (1099 Position)

Sign-on Bonus: $1,000 bonus for every 10,000 miles driven. Max payout is $6,000 at 60,000 miles. Excludes rehires and LP drivers.
Pay: OOP drivers earn 80% of the negotiated and agreed upon amount of each load that they deliver. Cargo insurance and Trailer Rent are included in the 20% Sweet Express keeps.
Running Area: Sweet Express may offer loads running anywhere in the continental lower-48 states. OOPs are NOT forced dispatched and may choose to accept or decline a load offered by Sweet Express.
Home Time: OOP may choose, how often they go home but must have delivered a load within a 30-day period to remain “active” in the system.
Rider Policy: 1 passenger may be authorized. Must be at least 9 years of age. $40/month payroll deduction for insurance purposes.

ELD Escrow – Required

  • ELD (Samsara Unit – required): $1,200 total escrow amount. $200/week until paid in full.

ELD Installation Fee

  • $97.50 deducted from the OOPs first settlement.

Fuel & Fuel Card:

  • Fuel expense is deducted weekly.
  • $2.55 transactional fee per swipe if using Sweet Express’ fuel card.

Fixed Monthly Expenses:

  • Occupational/Accidental Insurance: $155/month
  • Samsara (ELD service fee): $55/month
  • Physical Insurance: if the owner operator’s truck ever falls under Sweet Express’ physical damage insurance due to an accident, that amount is deducted monthly (Friday after the first Tuesday of each month).

Fixed Quarterly Expenses:

  • IFTA preparation fee: $50/quarter
  • IFTA: varies on how much you fuel per state.

Registration/IRP through Sweet Express (Optional):

  • Registration/IRP annual renewal: expense varies on the registration year, but is generally between $2,000 – $2,300. Payroll deduction of $500/per week until paid in full.

Physical/Non-Trucking Liability through Sweet Express (optional):

  • Expense/premium depends on the physical coverage and is deducted weekly. Contact us for a quote.

Elite Pass (Optional Unit for rent):

  • Elite Pass Escrow: $1,000 total escrow amount. $50/week until paid in full.
  • Tolls paid utilizing this unit are deducted on a monthly basis. Invoicing is generally received the first week of each month with deductions occurring the 2nd week of the month.
  • Trucks cannot be more than 10 years old. Older trucks in exceptional condition may be considered and approved through our Shop/Equipment Dept., but may NOT be ELD exempt.
  • Must run under Sweet Express’ DOT authority
  • Must use Sweet Express’ trailers
  • The owner of the vehicle must be the one operating the vehicle. Owner operators cannot lease a truck onto Sweet that they do not own. We do not sublease independent contractors onto the fleet.
  • Must be able to drive semi-tractor to orientation located in Grand Rapids, MI.
  • Title: must be in PDF format and include a copy of the front AND back of the document.
  • SS-4 Form: if the OOP is operating under a business (meaning, the business name is listed as the “owner” on the Title and/or 3rd party lease agreement), a SS-4 Form is required showing the business information including legal business name, address, owner of the business, and EIN #.
  • DOT Inspection: a new inspection completed within the last 30 days of the OOPs scheduled orientation date will be required.
  • HWY-2290: if you do not have one with a visible watermark, it will cost $550 for the year and is prorated after June 1st.
  • Physical/Non-Trucking Liability Insurance: if you plan to use your own insurance, a certificate of insurance with a full breakdown of coverage is required.
  • Registration: if you plan to use your own registration, we will require a PDF copy. The OOP will also be required to change the “Carrier Responsible for Safety” portion with their local DMV after orientation.
  • Level 3 Inspection (No Violations): $50 bonus
  • Level 2 Inspection (No Violations): $100 bonus
  • Level 1 Inspection (No Violations): $200 bonus
  • In addition, once a driver receives 5 clean inspections, they receive an additional $500 bonus.
